Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our legal aid translation services.
Legal aid translation covers documents used in matters funded through the Legal Aid Agency (LAA). Funding, recoverability and prior-authority requirements depend on the type of matter and the applicable LAA rules.
Our published rates guide currently uses £100 per 1,000 source words for civil and family matters and £109 per 1,000 source words for criminal matters. The applicable funding and recoverability position should be checked for the particular case.
Use our online order form to upload the documents and provide the language pair, case type and deadline. We will review the files and confirm the scope, price and available turnaround before work begins.
Turnaround depends on the language pair, document volume, source quality, complexity and linguist availability. Standard, urgent and same-day requests may be available, with the deadline confirmed before instruction.
We support a wide range of language pairs used in UK legal matters, including Arabic, Urdu, Polish, Somali, Farsi, Bengali, Romanian, Albanian, Kurdish, Pashto, Tamil, Turkish, Vietnamese, Tigrinya, Amharic, Mandarin and Cantonese. Availability is confirmed for the required pair and deadline.

It depends on the matter, proposed cost and applicable LAA rules. Current guidance distinguishes between situations where prior authority is required, optional or unnecessary, so the relevant guidance should be checked before instruction where appropriate.
Linguists are selected according to the language pair, subject matter, document type and agreed service requirements. Relevant qualifications and experience are considered for each assignment. If a specific registration or background check is required, tell us before instruction so availability can be confirmed.
We use confidentiality requirements, restricted access and appropriate document-handling controls for client files. Any case-specific security, retention, deletion or handling requirements should be agreed before instruction.
